Though focused on the Scottish Higher Education context, UCSL is keen to develop collegial links with academics and academic institutions across the globe.
- awards the prestigious Ross Roy Prize for the best PhD thesis in Scottish literature in a given year;
- awards the Scottish Literary Studies Book Prize, recognising outstanding works of scholarship in the field of Scottish literary studies
- fosters collaboration in Scottish literature teaching and research between institutions, among postgraduates, and across disciplinary and international boundaries;
- aims to speak for Scottish literary study where matters of Higher Education policy are discussed by educational or other public bodies.
