The Association for Scottish Literature (ASL) promotes the study, teaching and writing of Scottish literature, and furthers the study of the languages of Scotland.

Literature Alliance Scotland is Scotland’s largest network of organisations working to support and develop books, reading, writing and other engagement with literature.
The literature sector in Scotland is a broad and exciting ecosystem. We bring our membership together for peer learning, to take action on shared and individual challenges, support the resilience and development of our workforce (including freelancers) and build up our collective voice to advocate to make things better.
While our remit as a network is focused on bringing together organisations, the needs and voices of writers and other literature freelancers are represented strongly through our membership, which includes unions and other professional bodies. Many of our Board are also published authors and have significant professional experience as freelancers within the literature sector in Scotland and internationally.
